OUR STORY

El Caracol was born in Mulazzo from a couple who brought together the heart of Spain and the soul of Lunigiana.
In the 1960s, Antonio Novoa — from Galicia — met Elsa Giannardi — from Mulazzo — in Lausanne, Switzerland.
He worked as an upholsterer. She was a waitress in a prestigious restaurant.
After the birth of their first son, Gianmarco, they decided to return to Mulazzo. First came a small trattoria. Then, in 1977, they opened El Caracol.
Their idea was simple and honest: a cuisine that doesn’t follow trends, but blends Spanish and Lunigiana flavors with heartfelt hospitality.
Today, El Caracol is still a family affair, now run by three generations.
In the kitchen, Gianmarco and his wife Federica.
In the dining room, their three sons: Gianluca, Alessandro and Gioele.
The tradition remains, but the management has evolved — more modern, more attentive to quality, service, and guest experience.
We’re the only restaurant in Lunigiana offering original Spanish cuisine alongside a curated selection of local dishes.
Our paella is always made to order, the menu is crafted with care, and the atmosphere is designed to make you feel at home — with professionalism and passion.
El Caracol is more than just a restaurant.
It’s a place where history is told at the table.
We look forward to welcoming you in Mulazzo — with views, warmth, and real flavor.
